GIS Technician Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a skilled GIS Technician to join our team at the Alberta Snowmobile Association. As a GIS Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting our organization's mission by utilizing your expertise in geographic information systems to analyze and interpret spatial data.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate maps and related graphs and charts to visualize data and support decision-making
  • Plan and design map content, format, and layout, and compile required data from various sources
  • Maintain and manage digital databases to ensure accurate and up-to-date information
  • Process data to conduct basic analyses of trends and patterns
  • Write specifications and technical reports to document findings and recommendations
  • Apply quality control procedures to ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • Participate in field checks and verification to ensure data accuracy
  • Analyze and interpret weather data to support decision-making
  • Maintain climatological databases to track and analyze weather patterns
  • Observe, record, and transmit atmospheric and weather information
  • Operate analog or digital airborne remote sensing equipment to prepare images, data, and graphic reports
  • Perform data entry to ensure accurate and up-to-date information
  • Verify accuracy and completeness of data to ensure high-quality results

Requirements

  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate
  • 1 to less than 7 months of experience in a related field
  • Ability to work on site, with no option to work remotely
