Position Overview
The role involves supporting the academic framework within the Creative Industries department at Toronto Metropolitan University. This position is integral to enhancing the learning experience for students through effective tutoring and guidance.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include a detailed breakdown of hours dedicated to various tasks over the term:
- 36.0 Hours/Term: Participating in lectures.
- 24.0 Hours/Term: Facilitating discussions as a tutor.
- 12.0 Hours/Term: Holding office hours for student consultations.
- 12.0 Hours/Term: Engaging in electronic consultations with students.
- 16.0 Hours/Term: Assisting in the evaluation of assignments, including tests and essays.
- 12.0 Hours/Term: Collaborating with the Supervising Instructor and attending required training sessions.
- 4.0 Hours/Term: Participating in employer orientation and mandatory training.
- 4.0 Hours/Term: Conducting invigilation duties for examinations as needed.
Total Work Hours
The estimated total hours of work may vary based on qualifications and pay rates. Employees can work up to a maximum of 130 hours per semester or 390 hours per academic year. Please note that work is not guaranteed, and no pay or benefits will be provided when not on assignment.
Qualifications Required
Candidates should have prior performance evaluations as an Assistant at the University (if applicable).
Candidates must be enrolled in: 1st year Masters, 2nd year Masters, or PhD programs. Preference will be given to Doctoral candidates, followed by Master's candidates.
Relevant Experience
Experience in the Creative Industries is preferred.
Additional Information
There are two mass lectures with five tutorials each, totaling ten tutorials. We are seeking five full-time Graduate Assistants for contracts of 120 hours each, with the option for half contracts of 60 hours.
Compensation
The hourly compensation is as follows:
- Master’s Degree: $47.06 per hour
- PhD: $50.82 per hour
