Job Summary

The City of Victoria is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Deputy City Clerk to manage the Legislative Services Section. This is an exciting opportunity to join our team and contribute to the success of our organization.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and manage legislative secretariat programs, including preparing and managing annual operational budgets, reviewing administrative procedures, and implementing improvements.
  2. Supervise and manage a team of support staff, including setting staff objectives, providing work direction, and managing employee conduct and performance.
  3. Provide professional advice to Council, advisory committees, senior managers, and staff on bylaw and statutory requirements, parliamentary and procedural advice, and the application of legislation and regulations.
  4. Represent the Legislative and Regulatory Services Department to other organizations, government agencies, and the public, including clarifying legislation and responding to media and public information requests.
  5. Manage the delivery of legislative secretariat services to Council, including creating agendas, coordinating meetings, and ensuring the accurate and complete recording and preserving of meeting minutes.
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor of Arts Degree in Public Administration or Political Science.
  2. Provincial Board of Examiners Certification in Local Government Administration.
  3. 5-7 years of progressively responsible supervisory experience in local government administration.
