Position Overview:
The Radiation Systems Project Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting Mirion Technologies' Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) initiatives. This position involves the development of comprehensive testing protocols, user documentation, engineering assessments, and various project-related documents. The engineer will engage in all stages of custom engineering project design, ensuring that all drawings align with specification standards. Responsibilities also include leading post-production evaluations and factory acceptance tests, along with providing ongoing engineering assistance to clients post-delivery, which may include occasional on-site training or commissioning support.

Essential Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Radiation Systems Project Engineer role should possess the following qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering (preferred), electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of pertinent work experience in the field.
  • Fundamental understanding of nuclear radiation properties, radiation measurement instruments, radiation detectors, and associated electronic systems (both analog and digital).
  • Capability to handle low-level radioactive materials in compliance with Mirion's radiation materials licensing requirements. Experience in a nuclear facility is advantageous.
  • Strong proficiency in computer and digital electronics, with expertise in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Familiarity with MCNP and Microshield analyses is highly desirable.
  • Must satisfy NRC criteria for escorted access to nuclear power facilities in the USA.
  • Willingness to travel to client locations, approximately 20% of the time.

Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Radiation Systems Project Engineer encompass providing thorough project and technical support for all RMS projects/products, including:
  • Delivering both on-site and remote technical assistance to clients.
  • Assisting in the creation of technical proposals and offers.
  • Formulating testing procedures and generating test reports.
  • Conducting acceptance and qualification testing.
  • Providing training sessions, both on-site and remotely.
  • Overseeing system configuration and installation processes.

Project Engineering and Support:
The engineer will also be involved in:
  • Reviewing requests for quotations (RFQs) and aiding in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Participating in all phases of project negotiation and execution.
  • Establishing testing protocols and executing post-production evaluations.
  • Creating technical specifications for products and subcontractors.
  • Reviewing production documentation, including drawings and bills of materials (BOM).
  • Conducting root cause analyses and failure mode effects analyses.
  • Preparing compliance matrices for projects.

Testing and Calibration:
The engineer will also be responsible for:
  • Drafting system testing and calibration procedures for specific configurations.
  • Executing system acceptance and qualification tests, along with nuclear calibration.
  • Compiling system testing and calibration reports.

Installation and Training:
Providing installation support and training will include:
  • Offering on-site installation supervision and assistance to clients.
  • Creating system-specific operating instructions and manuals.
  • Conducting training sessions both on-site and off-site.
  • Demonstrating equipment to clients in various settings.

Performance Evaluation:
The engineer will evaluate the operation and performance of RMS equipment and:
  • Draft and revise Commercial Grade Item (CGI) dedication procedures and perform CGI dedication.
  • Review all RMS-related technical and marketing materials.

Continuous Improvement:
To maintain and enhance work area and technical expertise, the engineer will:
  • Complete required training and achieve performance goals.
  • Attend educational seminars, conferences, and workshops as approved by the supervisor.
