The Analyst will join the Global Markets Corporate Banking – Banks team, responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of banking clients across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa. This includes engagement with Commercial Banks, Central Banks, and various Supranationals, Sovereigns, and Agencies.
The Analyst's role encompasses supporting the origination and structuring of corporate transactions while collaborating with other product teams as part of a cohesive coverage unit that fosters robust client relationships. Key responsibilities involve offering lending expertise for the Banking Sector, establishing credit facilities to bolster trading products, and facilitating credit approvals for Trade Finance products. The Analyst will manage client accounts and is expected to conduct ongoing assessments of client portfolios and financial performance.
Credit Risk and Financial Analysis- Conduct thorough research and analysis of financial and operational data pertaining to current and prospective counterparties and industries.
- Draft clear, precise, and well-supported credit applications and memoranda for both new and existing transactions for presentation to the Credit department.
- Maintain up-to-date financial information on clients to ensure timely annual reviews, financial covenants, and internal monitoring.
- Perform comprehensive financial statement and credit risk analyses of counterparties and transactions utilizing all available information sources.
- Evaluate the financial stability of counterparties, including assessing appropriate debt levels and repayment capabilities.
- Analyze transactions for structural strengths and weaknesses, implementing strategies to mitigate identified weaknesses.
- Review credit documentation to ensure compliance with approved Credit terms and conditions.
- Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes.
- Assist Account Managers in overseeing the portfolio of accounts, including preparing concise credit reviews as necessary, at least annually.
- Provide analytical insights to the Account Management team, including assessments of credit risks and related mitigants.
- Support Account Managers with portfolio management requirements for relevant business partners and stakeholders.
- Engage in decision-making processes with clients and internal product group partners.
- Develop a thorough understanding of Bank policies to ensure portfolio compliance with BMO's standards.
- Participate in the negotiation of legal documentation.
- Assist in retrieving reports from the Bank's reporting database and Rating Agencies.
- Monitor exposures across various BMO clients and products.
- Support AML/KYC processing and secure any outstanding required documentation.
- Collaborate with Global Markets stakeholders and various operational areas of the Bank as needed.
- Support Global Markets in portfolio management needs and growth initiatives.
- Assist in updating Financing Guidelines.
- Participate in various projects as required.
The Analyst will primarily work independently, with additional responsibilities assigned as necessary.
Qualifications:- Typically, 3 - 5 years of relevant experience along with a post-secondary degree in a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Undergraduate degree with coursework in finance, economics, or accounting, demonstrating outstanding academic achievement.
- Experience and training in financial analysis.
- Up to 3 years of relevant experience within an investment and/or corporate banking unit.
- Exceptional analytical skills with proficiency in developing complex financial models.
- Expertise in financial software applications and database management tools.
- Skilled in creating statistical presentations.
- Specialized knowledge acquired through education and/or professional experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Collaboration and teamwork abilities.
- In-depth analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Influence and negotiation skills.
