The Analyst will integrate into the Global Markets Corporate Banking – Banks division. This specialized team oversees the portfolio of Banks across various regions including the Americas, Asia, and Europe, Middle East, and Africa. Our clientele comprises Commercial Banks, Central Banks, and other Supranationals, Sovereigns, and Agencies.

The Analyst's role involves supporting the origination and structuring of corporate transactions while collaborating with other product teams as a vital member of a broader coverage team dedicated to nurturing robust client relationships. Key responsibilities include providing lending expertise for the Banking Sector, establishing credit facilities to bolster trading products, and facilitating credit approvals in support of Trade Finance initiatives. The Analyst will manage accounts and is expected to conduct ongoing monitoring of client portfolios and financial performance.

Credit Risk and Financial Analysis
  • Conduct thorough research and analysis of financial and operational data pertaining to current and prospective counterparties and industries.
  • Draft concise, accurate, and well-reasoned credit applications and memoranda for both new and existing transactions for presentation to Credit.
  • Maintain up-to-date financial information on clients to ensure timely annual reviews, financial covenants, and internal trigger monitoring.
  • Perform comprehensive financial statement and credit risk analyses of counterparties and transactions utilizing all available information sources including financial statements, legal documentation, and credit ratings.
  • Evaluate the financial stability of counterparties, including appropriate debt levels, debt service, and repayment capabilities.
  • Analyze transactions for structural strengths and weaknesses, structuring appropriately to mitigate identified weaknesses.
  • Review credit documentation for compliance with approved Credit terms and conditions.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and regulatory changes.
Portfolio Management Support
  • Assist Account Managers in overseeing the portfolio of accounts, including preparing concise credit reviews as necessary, at least annually, within required timeframes.
  • Provide analytical insights to the Account Management team, including assessments of credit risks and related mitigants.
  • Support Account Managers with portfolio management requirements for relevant business partners and stakeholders.
  • Engage in decision-making processes with clients and internal product group partners.
  • Develop in-depth knowledge of Bank policies to ensure portfolio compliance with BMO's standards and procedures.
  • Review and participate in the negotiation of legal documentation.
  • Assist in retrieving reports from the Bank's reporting database and Rating Agencies.
  • Monitor exposures across various BMO clients and products.
  • Assist in AML/KYC processing and obtain any outstanding required documentation.
Dynamic Partnership
  • Collaborate with Global Markets stakeholders and various lines of business and operational areas of the Bank as necessary.
  • Support Global Markets on portfolio management needs and growth initiatives as required.
  • Assist in the updating of Financing Guidelines.
  • Participate in various projects as needed.

This role primarily operates independently. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:
  • Typically, 3 - 5 years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Undergraduate degree with coursework in finance, economics, or accounting demonstrating outstanding academic achievement.
  • Training and experience in financial analysis.
  • Up to 3 years of relevant experience within an investment and/or corporate banking unit.
  • Exceptional analytical skills with proficiency in building complex financial models.
  • Expertise in financial computer applications and database management tools.
  • Skilled in creating statistical presentations.
  • Specialized knowledge derived from education and/or business experience.
  • In-depth verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth influence skills.
