Role Overview

The Government of Alberta is seeking a Lead Financial Systems Analyst.

The Lead Financial Systems Analyst plays a crucial role within a team of finance experts dedicated to the creation, execution, and upkeep of financial systems that cater to the operational requirements of the department and its stakeholders. Effective oversight of these financial systems is essential to guarantee the precision and dependability of financial information being processed, stored, and reported. Various stakeholders, ranging from clerical staff to executive management, rely on reports generated from these systems to inform daily operational decisions. Many of these financial systems are extensive and intricate, encompassing cross-government platforms such as One Government Experience (1GX), Electronic Payment System (EPS), and Concur, in addition to department-specific financial systems like the Contract Management Administration System (CMAS) and the Child Youth Financial Suite (CYFS). These systems utilize a diverse array of databases, including DB2, Sybase, SQL Server, and Oracle, and incorporate various technologies such as client-server, mainframe, and web-based applications. Due to the scale, complexity, and interconnections of these financial systems, a distinctive combination of accounting, computing, and technical expertise is required for this role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or participate in financial systems development initiatives, ensuring that legacy financial systems are adequately maintained and updated to meet evolving business demands and technological advancements.
  • Act as the primary contact and subject matter expert on 1GX for the department and its partners, identifying, analyzing, and resolving system-related issues to ensure seamless, accurate, and continuous processing of payments and financial data.
  • Oversee and reconcile financial data extracts, which are vital components of the department's financial reporting framework. These extracts interface with other systems such as CMAS and CYFS through iServe, ensuring proper data flow between interface systems and 1GX that supports core departmental functions.
  • Monitor the maintenance of the department's reporting structure within the applications managed, ensuring adherence to corporate policies, departmental standards, and consistency across various reporting hierarchies.
  • Support team development, knowledge enhancement, and staff supervisory responsibilities within the Payments and Systems branch, ensuring accountability in the administration of the Expenditure Officer System (EOS), CMAS, CYFS, Concur, and EPS.
