Position Overview

Contract Duration: 2 years

The Client Relationship Manager plays a pivotal role in fostering a robust employer experience and partnership with the University of Waterloo. This position focuses on maintaining co-op and graduate employment opportunities with current employers while identifying avenues for further job creation within these organizations. Collaborating closely with Student Advisors, Job Developers, and Account Coordinators, the Client Relationship Manager formulates and implements a strategic account management plan tailored to meet the needs of employers, positioning the University of Waterloo as a key partner in talent management.

This role is primarily remote, with the expectation of regular travel within the designated region. Preference will be given to candidates residing in proximity to the operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement a proactive account management strategy in collaboration with Student Advisors and Account Coordinators to establish a strong, ongoing relationship with employers:

  • Enhance the University of Waterloo's role in the employer's talent acquisition strategy
  • Secure co-op and graduate job placements with existing employers
  • Identify and create new co-op and graduate job opportunities within current employer partnerships, aligning with strategic goals and promoting diversity in hiring
  • Facilitate the transition of co-op students into full-time positions with existing employers
  • Convert employers who have previously engaged students independently into regular hiring partners
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of communications and interactions with employers

Ensure that employers receive adequate support in all dealings with the Career and Co-op Education (CECA):

  • Engage with each employer at least annually, adhering to established contact protocols
  • Guide employers in effective recruitment strategies and the management of successful co-op work terms
  • Review and approve relevant job postings from existing employers as needed
  • Generate new employer referrals through existing employer networks for the business development team
  • Collaborate with the Regional Manager to implement the employer recognition framework and retention strategies

Facilitate information sharing with Student Advisors and support them in their interactions with employer supervisors.

Assist Career Advisors and Student Advisors in identifying potential job opportunities for students seeking employment.

Ensure a seamless transition for new employers from the business development team when their first co-op student is hired:

  • Support the successful handover of the employer relationship from the business developer
  • Ensure the employer is fully informed of the processes and that all concerns are addressed
  • During the initial transition period, collaborate with the Business Developer to resolve any employer issues
  • Establish a comprehensive account plan for the new employer, communicating with all relevant stakeholders at the University of Waterloo
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent education and experience is required
    Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in sales or relationship/account management roles with increasing responsibilities
  • Experience in recruitment and/or talent management is advantageous
  • Familiarity with employers and job development is a plus
  • Understanding of cooperative education and career services or similar organizations is essential
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and demonstrate exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Key attributes include a focus on relationship management, an outgoing personality, a customer service orientation, and a collaborative team spirit
  • Strong communication, presentation, analytical, and problem-solving skills are essential
  • Knowledge of labor markets in Ontario and the United States is beneficial
  • Proficient in MS Office applications, including Excel, Word, and Outlook, along with familiarity with social media platforms such as LinkedIn
