Position Summary
We are seeking a skilled professional to enhance our Property Large Loss team. In this role, you will manage intricate and substantial commercial property claims across various distribution channels. The claims you handle may encompass Commercial Property, Energy, Equipment Breakdown, and other Specialty Claims.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee, investigate, analyze, negotiate, and resolve large and complex commercial property claims typically exceeding $1M or involving specialized types of loss.
- Collaborate with internal and external counsel, consultants, adjusters, accountants, appraisers, and engineers to confirm coverage, ascertain liability, and evaluate damages.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to regional file handlers to ensure consistent and effective claims management while supporting long-term succession planning.
- Conduct training sessions for colleagues on the intricacies of complex claims handling.
- Partner with Underwriting, Loss Prevention, and other stakeholders to identify potential risks, hazards, and trends, sharing insights and lessons learned.
- Deliver exceptional customer service to brokers, clients, and team members.
- Achieve all key performance indicators related to loss development, loss adjustment expenses, claims leakage control, and expense management.
- Utilize your expertise in a creative, continuous improvement environment to promote best practice operations.
- Effectively negotiate claims when necessary.
- Participate in settlement conferences and trials.
Qualifications
- Strong critical thinking skills and intellectual curiosity when addressing complex problems in time-sensitive situations.
- Excellent communication abilities to foster positive business relationships and provide clear guidance to clients.
- Proficient problem-solving skills to gather information, assess situations, and negotiate appropriate next steps.
- Adaptability to changing needs and a flexible, agile approach.
- Strong organizational skills to establish effective strategies.
- A collaborative spirit with a passion for mentoring and coaching others.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing large and complex commercial property claims.
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant regulatory and legal requirements applicable to the role.
- Undergraduate degree or CIP designation is an asset.
- Willingness to travel as required.
- Valid driver's license.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is a plus.
