We are seeking a dedicated full-time Organizer to enhance our union's outreach and member engagement efforts.

About Us

CIPP has proudly represented professionals within the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Community Housing for over 65 years. Our members include a diverse range of professionals such as public health nurses, engineers, business analysts, project managers, paramedics, and many others committed to delivering high-quality public services in our community.

Your Role

As an Organizer, you will play a crucial role in our collaborative team, reporting directly to the Communication and Member Engagement Manager. Your primary focus will be to foster active participation among our existing members.

In this position, you will:

  • Facilitate outreach and mobilization initiatives to strengthen member involvement.
  • Implement a member-driven mobilization strategy that emphasizes personal connections to cultivate leadership within the union.
  • Support the creation of participatory strategies and plans that empower members for upcoming negotiations.
  • Collaborate with the Communications and Member Engagement Manager to produce effective communication materials, including newsletters and digital content.
  • Train and empower members to take on leadership roles and expand their networks.
  • Identify training needs to enhance the skills of leaders and organizers.
  • Maintain open communication regarding mobilization strategies with members and union leadership.
  • Utilize digital tools to support organizing efforts and monitor member engagement.
  • Ensure all organizing actions are conducted with a focus on justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Work collaboratively to maintain consistency and information sharing within the team.

Qualifications

  • A degree in social sciences, labor relations, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • One to two years of experience in organizing within labor, political, or community contexts.
  • Familiarity with digital organizing tools and experience in data management.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in English; French is an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to inspire collective action.
  • Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
  • Commitment to integrating anti-oppression principles into your work.

Working Conditions

  • This is a temporary full-time position with a contract duration of 18 months.
  • The salary range is competitive, accompanied by a comprehensive benefits package.
  • Hybrid work model with flexibility in location as required.
  • Additional hours may be necessary during evenings or weekends on occasion.
