with outstanding capabilities to support our operations
Department: Administration
Settlement Allowance: $20,907.43 per annum
This employment opportunity is exclusive to Nunavut Inuit.
The Language Services Specialist serves as an interpreter, facilitating communication in English and South Baffin Dialect Inuktitut during meetings, and is responsible for translating council and committee meeting records and correspondence to ensure effective communication among Councillors, staff, and the public.
Minimum Qualifications
- Grade 12 Diploma or equivalent
- 1 year of experience in a related Interpreter/Translator role.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient knowledge of computer systems and office equipment;
- Ability to utilize computerized translation tools effectively;
- Strong typing skills with the capacity to operate at high speeds and accuracy;
- Effective oral and written communication skills in Inuktitut and English, with a solid understanding of spelling and punctuation;
- Ability to uphold a high level of confidentiality;
- Excellent interpersonal skills;
- Capability to manage multiple tasks while adhering to deadlines;
- Flexible availability, including evenings, is necessary for this position.
Assets include:
- Completion of a recognized Interpreter/Translator training program;
- Strong communication skills with individuals at all organizational levels, along with effective problem identification and resolution abilities.
Equivalencies that combine education, skills, and abilities with formal education may be considered.
Due to the nature of this role, the successful applicant must provide a clear criminal reference check upon application.
