Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and provide technical guidance for reclamation projects and associated project portfolios.
  • Offer technical project direction and mentorship to junior and intermediate staff as well as project managers.
  • Engage in a collaborative environment that allows you to enhance your Program and Client Management skills.
  • Advise clients while maintaining and expanding project work with them.
  • Advance your technical skills, innovate, and stay informed about regulatory changes by engaging with a broader community of technical experts.

As a Senior Reclamation Specialist, you will support our Western Canadian offices as part of our Assessment, Remediation, Reclamation, and Monitoring (ARRM) team. The successful candidate will be office-based and involved in a diverse range of projects with responsibilities that include:

  • Actively promote Matrix's strong safety culture.
  • Assist in managing reclamation project timelines, budgets, and communications with clients and project stakeholders.
  • Prepare and/or review technical correspondence, proposals, work plans, cost estimates, and reports.
  • Operate within a well-structured and innovative culture with support systems that empower our professionals to focus on delivering high-quality solutions to our clients.
  • Support business growth and development for the reclamation portfolio.
  • Share knowledge, experiences, and support the training and mentorship of colleagues.
  • Participate in a technical practice community that encourages team and personal innovation, growth, and success at all levels.

Qualifications:

  • Technical diploma or degree in environmental science, geology, engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of prior consulting experience in a directly related role, including managing and executing various reclamation and vegetation management projects, with at least 5 years of experience achieving regulatory closure for reclamation work on oil and gas sites.
  • Registration in or membership in good standing with a professional organization (e.g., SIA, AIA).
  • Previous experience in a consulting environment with a proven track record in managing reclamation projects, including surface reclamation, revegetation, vegetation management, and detailed site assessments.
  • Familiarity with preparing technical reports, work plans, and cost estimates.
  • Experience compiling and reviewing Alberta Combined Assessment Tool and Record of Observation (RoO) forms, Record of Site Condition submissions, and Reclamation Certificate applications.
  • Understanding of improvement releases and overlapping exemptions.
  • Experience with the Alberta Energy Regulator's OneStop tool is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with the contaminated sites closure process is also beneficial.
  • Self-motivated with strong communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Ability to provide effective technical direction and mentorship to other professionals.
  • A working knowledge of provincial regulatory frameworks in Western Canada.
  • A valid and clean class 5 driver's license with no restrictions.
