Municipal Group of Companies is a prominent, multifaceted construction firm engaged in various key sectors of the heavy civil construction industry. We are currently on the lookout for skilled Excavator Operators.

Position Overview:
Under the supervision of the Foreman, the Excavator Operator will be tasked with the operation of heavy machinery to excavate, transport, load, and grade materials such as soil, rock, and gravel at construction sites. The role also includes responsibilities for inspecting, cleaning, and maintaining the equipment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of the excavator
  • Excavate trenches to the specified depth, grade, and slope
  • Follow the instructions of the ground crew regarding craning, gravel placement, and grading
  • Efficiently cut grade to minimize excavation time and maintain production schedules
  • Monitor changes in soil conditions and materials affecting operations
  • Conduct trench work in compliance with OH&S standards
  • Perform daily safety inspections and maintenance checks
  • Notify the Foreman of any maintenance or repair needs
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings at all times
  • Ensure a safe working environment in accordance with all safety policies and procedures, utilizing appropriate tools and equipment
  • Safeguard and promote the interests of the company in all matters
  • Ensure the safety of fellow workers
  • Carry out additional duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in a construction setting
  • Thorough understanding of construction site protocols, regulations, and conduct
  • Proficient in operating equipment with advanced grading techniques (e.g., GPS)
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Capable of operating required machinery safely and responsibly
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures
  • Effective communication skills with co-workers and supervisors to ensure project completion
  • Commitment to safety as a condition of employment.

Work Environment:
The Excavator Operator position may involve physically demanding tasks. The role requires lifting, pulling, and managing heavy machinery and materials. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, steel-toe boots, and reflective vests are necessary to mitigate risks on the job site. The work environment is primarily outdoors, subject to varying weather conditions.
