SENIOR MANAGER OF CIVIL PROJECTS

J.D. Irving, Limited is a reputable civil contractor with extensive experience in various civil engineering disciplines, including excavation, concrete construction, water and sewer systems, and aggregate production.

We are currently looking for qualified candidates for the position of Senior Manager of Civil Projects. This role will involve direct oversight and management of client relationships and business development initiatives with significant civil and industrial partners.

The successful candidate will exhibit an entrepreneurial mindset and a collaborative approach to cultivate and enhance business opportunities with our partners. A strong emphasis on safety will be essential while providing leadership and direction for project objectives, critical challenges, and innovative concepts.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Engage with major civil and industrial clients, managing daily interactions with key decision-makers and project teams, including job scopes, estimates, and resource allocations.
  2. Oversee and coordinate the construction of assigned projects to ensure compliance with design specifications, safety regulations, and budgetary constraints to meet profit targets.
  3. Supervise subcontractors and suppliers effectively.
  4. Collaborate with the project team to develop comprehensive and cost-effective plans and specifications.
  5. Maintain open lines of communication with team members.
  6. Identify opportunities to enhance customer value by evaluating product design and material selection for cost efficiency.
  7. Manage the tendering process, contract awards, and contract administration.
  8. Prepare and monitor budget and cost reports.
  9. Assess design modifications.
  10. Handle progress claims and change orders with clients.
  11. Act as a mentor and resource for the project team.
  12. Ensure compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
Required Competencies:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with 5-10+ years of experience on large-scale civil projects.
  2. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.
  3. Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or equivalent experience is preferred.
  4. Proficient in MS Project.
  5. Advanced understanding of civil engineering principles and the ability to articulate ideas effectively.
  6. Demonstrated leadership capabilities within the field and the ability to mentor others.
  7. Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  8. Excellent time management abilities.
  9. Exceptional teamwork and interpersonal skills, with a focus on transparent communication between site and project teams.
