Advanced Respiratory Care Specialist

Your Role:
The Operating Room Respiratory Therapist II is a vital member of the healthcare team, reporting directly to the Unit Manager. This role is essential in providing exceptional patient care within the operating room, anesthesia locations, and recovery areas. Key responsibilities include:
- Managing airway and ventilation effectively.
- Conducting arterial blood gas (ABG) procurement and interpretation.
- Demonstrating a thorough understanding of anesthesia-related equipment, ensuring functionality and troubleshooting as necessary.
- Maintaining skills in arterial line insertion, intubation, and autologous transfusion, adhering to certification protocols.
- Administering blood products as required.
- Contributing to data collection for anesthesia research.
- Assisting with endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) procedures.
- Keeping accurate records of preventative maintenance for respiratory therapy equipment.
- Participating in the training and orientation of new staff and students.
Key Responsibilities:
As a Clinical Respiratory Therapist II, you will be responsible for:
- Coordinating and assessing clinical services in your designated area.
- Serving as a clinical resource for daily operations, ensuring effective therapy assessment and treatment.
- Developing and implementing comprehensive respiratory therapy care plans while monitoring patient progress.
- Identifying equipment needs and maintaining adequate supplies for your area.
- Overseeing the operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance of respiratory equipment.
- Engaging in interprofessional rounds, conferences, and meetings as appropriate.
Qualifications:
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA) is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess experience in the operating room, with certifications in intubation, arterial line insertion, and autologous transfusion. Experience in various services such as Women's Health, Thoracic, Arthroplasty, Urology, Robotics, General Surgery, Orthopedics, Trauma, Plastics, OMFS, Neurosurgery, Spine, Otolaryngology, and Ophthalmology is highly valued. ACLS certification is also preferred.
