About Our Opportunity

The Government of Nova Scotia is seeking a highly skilled Policy Analyst to join our team at African Nova Scotian Affairs. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in advancing the strategic direction of our organization and improving the lives of African Nova Scotians.

Primary Accountabilities
  • Conduct in-depth policy research, including environmental scanning, jurisdictional and literature reviews, best practices research, etc. to support the development of policy options and recommendations on a wide range of public policy issues.
  • Support ANSA initiatives that will advance the strategic direction of ANSA and improve the lives of African Nova Scotians. This will involve analysis of information, preparation of findings/results, and development of tools, conceptual designs, charts, etc.
  • Support the office of the Deputy Minister and Minister through synthesis of information, the preparation of various reports, correspondences, briefing materials, etc., and the development of tools, conceptual designs, charts, etc.
  • Facilitate and support ANSA's planning and reporting mechanisms, including supporting business planning, and accountability reporting, tracking and reporting initiatives.
  • Coordinate and support the drafting of briefing books to assist the Deputy Minister and Minister during the sitting of the legislature.
  • Ensure comprehensive and timely responses to requests for input into ANSA/CCTH and government-wide initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline, involving policy, research methods, project management, etc. An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
  • Thorough knowledge and experience in policy development, strategic planning, program evaluation, and research methodologies.
  • Knowledge of African Nova Scotian issues and the Office of African Nova Scotian Affairs legislated mandate.
  • Knowledge and experience in government decision-making processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong coordination and organization skills.
  • Well-developed ability to think independently and conceptually.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills in a variety of software applications, such as Microsoft Office.
