Mental Health and Wellness Specialist

McMaster University is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Black Wellness Counsellor to join our team. As a key member of our Student Wellness Centre, you will play a vital role in promoting student development, success, and retention.
Key Responsibilities- Assessment and Treatment Planning: Identify, assess, develop, and implement effective treatment plans to support students' academic performance, personal growth, and well-being.
- Counselling and Therapy Services: Provide in-depth counselling and therapy interviews, utilizing evidence-based models to interpret information and support students in achieving their goals.
- Risk Assessment and Intervention: Conduct thorough risk assessments, coordinate referrals with professionals, and provide crisis counselling to students in need.
- Client Support and Advocacy: Nurture and support clients, encourage self-care, and advocate on their behalf for special academic consideration.
- Program Development and Delivery: Develop and deliver presentations, training sessions, and group counselling materials to support students' mental health and well-being.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate case notes, write referral reports, and review service delivery models to ensure effectiveness.
- Supervision and Quality Assurance: Ensure adherence to quality standards, provide orientation and training to staff and volunteers, and participate in professional development activities.
- Education: Master's degree in Counselling Psychology or a related field.
- Experience: 3 years of relevant experience in counselling, therapy, or a related field.
