Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health, Safety, and Wellness Specialist to join our team at Mohawk College. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring health, safety, and wellness programs to foster a psychologically safe environment for employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and administer wellness programs to promote employee mental health and well-being.
  • Provide guidance, education, and training on health, safety, and wellness issues to employees and leaders.
  • Conduct internal health, safety, and wellness audits and surveys to identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage the ergonomic safety program and develop strategies to promote a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Collaborate with team members to implement key deliverables to drive employee well-being.
  • Plan and organize health promotion activities to engage employees in healthy behaviors.
  • Develop and implement metrics to monitor the performance of wellness programs and make data-driven decisions.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as occupational health or psychology.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in health, safety, and wellness, with a focus on mental health and psychological safety.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing wellness programs and training materials.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related Canadian Standards Association (CSA) Standards.
  • Experience working in a unionized environment with Joint H&S Committees and Wellness Committees.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of employees and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Certification in psychological safety or workplace mental health.
  • Experience in developing and implementing ergonomic safety programs.
  • Experience working in a higher education setting.
