The City of Kamloops is seeking a dedicated and skilled Planning Technician for a permanent, full-time role. This position entails reviewing initial proposals and building permit submissions for commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential projects to ensure adherence to regulations. The Planning Technician will also be tasked with drafting reports, agendas, correspondence, and preliminary proposals, as well as handling rezoning and development permit applications.

The ideal candidate should possess the following qualifications:
- A university diploma or degree in Urban/Community Planning or a related field, such as geography, sociology, urban development, or sustainable development.
- A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in a planning context, including at least one year of experience in researching, collecting, and compiling statistical data for community and project planning.
- Formal training in GIS applications or two years of related GIS work experience.
- Eligibility to become a candidate member of the Planning Institute of BC.
- Proficiency in basic Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as demonstrated through testing (a 70% pass rate is required).
- A valid BC Driver's Licence - Class 5 (or equivalent).
For new hires and those in designated positions of trust, including roles involving vulnerable individuals, a police information check must be completed prior to a formal offer of employment.
This position includes a comprehensive benefits package and is classified under CUPE local 900. The job posting will remain open until filled, with the possibility of closure once a qualified candidate is identified.
