Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Urban Planning Specialist to join our team at the City of Kamloops. As a key member of our planning department, you will be responsible for examining preliminary proposals and building permit applications for commercial, industrial, and multi-family residential buildings to ensure compliance with regulations.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in urban planning, with a university diploma or degree in a related field. They will also have a minimum of three years of professional experience in a planning environment, including one year of researching, collecting, and compiling statistical data for use in community and project planning.

Key qualifications for this role include formal training in GIS applications, proficiency in basic Microsoft Office software, and a valid BC Driver's Licence. The successful candidate will also be a candidate member or eligible to become a candidate member of the Planning Institute of BC.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Examine preliminary proposals and building permit applications for compliance with regulations
  • Prepare reports, agendas, correspondence, and preliminary proposals

Requirements:

  • University diploma or degree in Urban/Community Planning or a related discipline
  • Minimum three years of professional experience in a planning environment
