About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Wellness Mentor to join our Intervention Team at Grasslands Public Schools. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and guidance to students in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide one-on-one support to students, engaging in targeted groups and facilitating a psychologically safe school environment.
  • Establish positive expectations for children and youth, promoting a culture of inclusivity and respect.
  • Document contact notes from sessions with students, parents, and community agencies, ensuring accurate and timely communication.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss informed consent, provide updates on service, and suggest resources for further support.
  • Act as case coordinator for students, communicating with teachers, administrators, and other school staff to ensure seamless support.
  • Collaborate with community agencies to facilitate referrals and advocate for students' needs.
  • Provide information to the school community and parents/guardians to foster greater understanding of mental health issues and the impact of trauma.
  • Stay up-to-date on recent approaches and methods for managing student difficulties, attending supervision and consultation sessions as needed.

  • Proven cultural, diversity, and inclusion competencies, with the ability to apply these competencies to all aspects of the job.
  • Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to deliver programming and initiatives through public speaking.
  • Flexible and able to work independently, as a team, and with community agencies.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple demands.
  • Strong computer skills, with the ability to quickly learn new and existing programs related to the job.
  • Able to establish trust and rapport with students.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post-secondary education or relevant training in a health or social sciences field.
  • Experience working with diverse and multicultural populations.
  • Minimum 2 years' experience working with children and adults in large and small group settings.
