Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of the faculty at Nova Scotia Community College, you will:

  • Deliver both theoretical and hands-on instruction within the Aircraft Maintenance Technology Mechanical program.
  • Collaboratively create and implement educational experiences tailored for a diverse student body. This includes preparation, teaching, assessment, and evaluation utilizing a variety of flexible instructional methods and technologies, such as Learning Management Systems and classroom tools.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety standards in all educational settings, including classrooms, workshops, and laboratories.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards relevant to your field and continuously enhance your understanding of modern teaching methodologies. This role may require various teaching formats (e.g., in-person, online, hybrid), off-campus instruction, and flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
  • Engage in additional responsibilities such as academic and career counseling, committee participation, program promotion, curriculum development through collaborative faculty efforts, supporting work placements, liaising with industry partners, representing the institution as needed, and upholding college policies.

Qualifications

Educational and Professional Experience:

  • A valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License: M1 or M2 is required.
  • A minimum of five years of recent, relevant experience in fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair, particularly with reciprocating engines. Note that two years of training can count towards educational qualifications but not occupational experience.
  • A solid understanding of Manufacturer's and Regulatory Documentation (CAR 566), including SRM, Service Bulletins, and Engineering Drawings.
  • Proficient in the tools of the trade and the processes necessary to fulfill assigned duties.
  • Hands-on experience as an AME for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite and email.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with industry stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in a digital environment, with a commitment to leveraging technology to enhance student learning experiences, including multimedia technologies and various platforms for online and blended learning.
  • Experience in delivering educational programs or training to adult learners is preferred.
  • Experience in providing performance feedback is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, and specific safety practices relevant to the occupation.
  • Ability to effectively teach in online and blended formats, including knowledge of best practices for course delivery and management in digital environments. Candidates without prior online teaching experience should be willing to undergo training for this delivery model.
