Your contributions will include...

As a vital member of the School of Trades & Technology instructional team, you will:

  • Deliver both theoretical and hands-on training in the Gas Technician curriculum.
  • Collaboratively design and implement educational programs tailored for a diverse learner demographic. This encompasses preparation, teaching, assessment, and evaluation of students utilizing a variety of adaptable teaching methodologies and technologies, including Learning Management Systems.
  • Uphold health and safety standards in all instructional environments, including classrooms, workshops, and laboratories.
  • Stay updated with the latest industry standards relevant to your field and continuously enhance your knowledge of contemporary teaching and learning methodologies. This role may require various instructional formats, including in-person, online, and hybrid models, as well as off-site teaching and flexible hours.
  • Engage in additional responsibilities such as academic and career guidance, committee participation, program promotion, curriculum development through collaborative faculty efforts, overseeing work placements, liaising with industry partners, representing the institution as necessary, and adhering to institutional policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications

Educational Background and Professional Experience:

  • A minimum educational requirement for this position is a Gasfitter B certification, along with a valid Gas Technician license or an equivalent recognized provincial certification.
  • A minimum of five years of recent, full-time relevant experience in natural gas and/or propane installation and service is required.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Office Suite and email, is essential.
  • Familiarity with Learning Management Systems, such as Brightspace, is advantageous.
  • Comfort in a digital environment, with a proactive approach to acquiring knowledge about emerging technologies, is necessary. Commitment to leveraging technology to enhance student experiences, including multimedia tools and various platforms for engaging students in online and blended learning, is expected.
  • Ideally, you possess experience in delivering educational programs or training to adult learners.
  • Experience in providing performance feedback will be considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and application of WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, and industry-specific safety protocols are required.
  • Proficiency in utilizing multimedia technologies and various platforms to engage students in online and blended learning environments is crucial. The ability to effectively teach in an online or blended format, including understanding best practices for course delivery and management, is vital for success. Candidates lacking prior online or blended teaching experience should be open to training in this delivery model.
