Position Overview

Key Responsibilities

As a vital member of the faculty at Nova Scotia Community College's School of Trades and Transportation, your role will encompass:

  • Delivering both theoretical and hands-on instruction within the Aircraft Maintenance Technology Mechanical program.
  • Collaboratively crafting and implementing educational experiences tailored for a diverse student body. This includes preparation, teaching, assessment, and evaluation utilizing a variety of flexible teaching methodologies and technologies, such as Learning Management Systems and classroom tools.
  • Ensuring adherence to health and safety protocols within classrooms, workshops, and laboratories.
  • Staying updated with the latest industry standards relevant to your field and continuously enhancing your knowledge of contemporary teaching practices. This role may require various teaching modalities, including in-person, online, and blended formats, as well as off-site instruction and flexible hours.
  • Engaging in additional responsibilities such as academic and career guidance, participating in committees, promoting programs, revising and developing curricula through collaborative efforts, supporting work placements, liaising with industry partners, representing the college as needed, and upholding institutional policies.

Qualifications

Educational and Professional Experience:

  • A valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineers License: M1 or M2 is required.
  • A minimum of five years of recent, relevant experience in fixed and/or rotary wing aircraft maintenance and repair, particularly with reciprocating engines. Note that two years of training can count towards educational requirements but not towards occupational experience.
  • A comprehensive understanding of Manufacturer's and Regulatory Documentation, including SRM, Service Bulletins, and Engineering Drawings.
  • Proficient use of trade tools and processes necessary for assigned duties.
  • Hands-on experience as an AME for rotary and fixed-wing aircraft is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with computer applications, including the Microsoft Office Suite and email communication.
  • Demonstrated experience in collaborating with industry stakeholders.
  • Comfortable in a digital environment, taking initiative to learn about advancing technologies, and committed to leveraging technology to enhance student experiences, including multimedia and various platforms for online and blended learning.
  • Ideally, experience in delivering educational programs or training to adult learners.
  • Experience providing performance feedback is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, Occupational Health and Safety, and specific safety practices relevant to the occupation.
  • Proficient in using multimedia technologies and diverse platforms to engage students in online and blended learning settings. Candidates without prior online/blended teaching experience should be willing to undergo training for this delivery model.
