Maintenance Supervisor Job Description

Company Overview:

Our client is a fast-growing food manufacturer, privately owned with an expanding high growth operation within a CFIA regulated food processing facility.

The Opportunity:

The Maintenance Supervisor position is responsible for supervising and leading a small Maintenance team. This role will lead the maintenance program and work-order system execution and enhancement to ensure that the highest levels of machine efficiencies and quality standards are consistently maintained.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading role in ensuring a safety-first culture through actively supporting the site's health and safety program and ensuring health and safety is a top priority
  • Support through participation and leadership on quality best practices as well as continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives
  • Ensuring adherence to the maintenance program and work-order system, including: scheduling, review and specific document sign-offs
  • Supervision and assistance to maintenance staff in the trouble-shooting process related to day-to-day operation of all facility equipment
  • Troubleshoot and assist to resolve electro-mechanical deficiencies and quality-related issues; implement immediate corrective actions and preventative measures
  • Responding to equipment problems in a timely & customer oriented manner
  • Lead, schedule, coach and train a staff of maintenance technicians
  • Utilization and enforcement of the progressive disciplinary process for coaching and development of staff
  • Two way and consistent / constant communication with employees in order to maintain company goals of an exemplary employee relations environment
  • Organization and scheduling of manpower per production schedule requirements
  • Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality, where necessary adjust equipment, processes and formulation to meet expected standards
  • Train staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policies
  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions
  • Making recommendations to management on changes or improvements to processes in order to achieve greater efficiencies and overall company goals
  • Assist in employee evaluation related to ongoing technical development and training
  • Administrate and assist in managing spare parts requirements
  • Organise and coordinate with contractors and third parties to execute work as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years' experience as an Industrial Electrician, Maintenance Mechanic / Millwright OR Electronics Technician OR related – ideally within a food manufacturing environment
  • Experience training, coaching, and supervising staff
  • Post-secondary education, preferably in a technical field
  • Licensed 433A OR Red Seal Certificate an asset; or equivalent experience and willingness to become licensed in either of the above disciplines
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft office suite
  • Experience with Preventative Maintenance and CMMS programs
