We are seeking a highly skilled MRI Technologist to join our team at Royal Columbian Hospital. As a key member of our Medical Imaging department, you will be responsible for performing MRI examinations, operating computerized imaging equipment, and ensuring the highest level of patient care.
Responsibilities- Perform MRI examinations in accordance with established procedures, including completing requisitions, positioning patients, and explaining clinical procedures.
- Monitor patients during procedures, responding to possible contrast media reactions or other emergent situations.
- Conduct image studies using MRI equipment and departmental information systems, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Facilitate the workflow of designated work areas, regulating inpatient examination time and arranging departmental and/or facility porters.
- Perform quality control duties, including scheduling and performing equipment tests, recording results, and identifying malfunctioning equipment for repair.
- Participate in departmental Continuous Quality Improvement/LEAN programs, using established monitoring and auditing methodologies to perform quality assurance checks.
- Maintain designated work areas, checking and cleaning equipment, setting up examination trays, and receiving and stocking supplies.
- Demonstrate procedures and usage of equipment to staff, including medical residents, technologists, and students.
- Participate in maintaining patient and hospital records, entering data into radiology and hospital information systems as required.
- Respond to inquiries from other clinical areas regarding patient examinations and schedules, referring concerns to appropriate supervisors as needed.
- Determine workload measurements and compile workload statistical reports, making recommendations to the Director on how services may be improved.
- Ensure the department meets Health and Safety rules, regulations, and practices, updating staff on changes to safety procedures and following up on safety recommendations.
- Participate in approved research and special projects in collaboration with supervisors and other healthcare professionals.
- Maintain equipment, monitoring its operation and making arrangements for maintenance and repairs as required.
- Carry out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements, immediately reporting unsafe situations to supervisors or other appropriate personnel.
Certification with CAMRT (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) is required. Completion of Intravenous Therapy training course when required by site practice and one (1) year recent, related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience is also necessary. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification - Basic Life Support (BCLS) level is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of standards of practice and guidelines for Medical Imaging practitioners established by the CAMRT and/or other relevant national professional associations is essential. Additionally, demonstrated knowledge of evidence-based practice related to designated modality, organization policies, procedures, and standards of care, including practice of safe work procedures with modality equipment, is required.
Demonstrated knowledge of current MRI theory and practices within a client/family centered model of care, as well as research process and methodology, is necessary. PACS/radiology information systems, digital imaging, image archiving, and retrieval knowledge is also required. The ability to develop procedure protocols and manuals, communicate effectively with clients and their families, coworkers, physicians, and other healthcare staff, and deal with conflict issues is essential.
The ability to work independently and in collaboration with others, plan and establish workload priorities, and perform MRI techniques and the use of applicable equipment and supplies is necessary. Physical ability to perform the duties of the position is also required.
