The 5C Nephro/Neuro unit is a 36-bed medical facility dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with renal and neurological conditions. Our unit is equipped with renal dialysis facilities, allowing patients to receive necessary treatments in a comfortable environment. We cater to individuals with both acute and chronic renal issues, as well as those recovering from strokes or dealing with other neurological challenges.
As a Registered Practical Nurse in this unit, your primary role will involve utilizing the nursing process to care for patients facing complex medical challenges related to renal and neurological health. This includes managing cases of end-stage renal disease, peritoneal dialysis, and acute strokes. You will be responsible for all aspects of patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions tailored to each patient's needs.
You will coordinate care to ensure smooth transitions for patients throughout their healthcare journey, providing education to both patients and their families, and addressing factors that contribute to overall satisfaction with care. Your responsibilities will also include administering medications and procedures in accordance with established protocols, as well as meticulously documenting patient observations, assessments, and any changes in their condition. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team will be essential to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Required Qualifications

- Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) approved by Heart & Stroke at the time of hire.
- Experienced in acute inpatient medicine, preferably in nephrology or neurology.

- Committed to ongoing professional development.
- Proficient in aseptic techniques, suctioning, wound care, and IV insertion.
- Experienced in medication administration.
- Capable of thriving in a fast-paced healthcare environment.

- Compassionate and caring towards patients, families, and colleagues.
- Physically able to meet the demands of the role.
- Possessing a satisfactory employment and attendance record.

Additional Information
Work Schedule: Rotating 12-hour shifts, with varying schedules based on operational needs.
