Job Summary

Morrison Hershfield is a leading consulting engineering and management firm seeking a skilled Transportation Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Horizontal Infrastructure Business Unit, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality infrastructure solutions that drive economic growth and social prosperity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as project manager, structural lead, and designer for engineering assignments, ensuring timely and within-budget delivery.
  • Lead and conduct inspections of existing bridges, culverts, and other transportation structures in accordance with the Ontario Structure Inspection Manual (OSIM) and other applicable standards.
  • Provide recommendations and costing on bridge, culvert, and retaining wall maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation.
  • Project manage inspection assignments, ensuring seamless execution and high-quality results.
  • Input data captured in the field into a database onsite, ensuring accurate and efficient data management.
  • Provide direction to project team members and support staff through verbal and written instructions, promoting a collaborative and productive work environment.
  • Attend and participate in team progress meetings, ensuring open communication and effective project management.
  • Technically review inspection reports, ensuring accuracy and quality.
  • Conduct regular reviews of transportation structure inspection projects to ensure budget, schedule, risk, and cost-to-complete estimates are appropriate.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, summary reports, and proposals, ensuring clarity and concision.
Requirements
  • BASc or B.Eng. in civil/structural engineering with a strong interest and experience in bridge engineering, particularly biennial inspections.
  • P.Eng. status and 10+ years of experience leading biennial inspection assignments.
  • RAQS eligibility within bridge engineering for biennial inspections and wood bridge inspections.
  • Experience in fatigue inspections, proposal and report writing, and asset management.
  • Successful experience in analyzing, evaluating, rehabilitating, and designing bridges and culverts.
  • Interest in working in both office and field environments.
  • Experience in project management, with a strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to perform outdoor physical duties while conducting bridge inspection work.
  • Valid Ontario Driver's license.
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with bridge inspection and asset management software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Able to work in a team environment and excel in bridge inspection projects.
  • Proven ability to supervise, direct, and mentor junior staff.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to work well with minimal direction.
