Position Overview:

The Canadian Museum for Human Rights (CMHR) is on the lookout for a Chief Public Affairs Officer to spearhead its communications and marketing strategies. This pivotal role is integral to the museum's mission of promoting human rights through effective public engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulate and implement comprehensive communication and marketing strategies that resonate with the museum's vision and objectives.
  • Lead and mentor a diverse team of professionals, fostering a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture.
  • Oversee budget management for the public affairs division, ensuring optimal resource allocation to achieve strategic goals.
  • Direct the production of high-quality content across multiple platforms, maintaining consistency with the museum's brand identity.
  • Manage earned and paid media initiatives aimed at enhancing national visibility and community connection.
  • Provide strategic counsel on government relations, stakeholder engagement, and community outreach.
  • Establish and nurture partnerships with external organizations to amplify the museum's initiatives and broaden its impact.

Ideal Qualifications:

  • A degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related discipline, complemented by a minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
  • Extensive background in issues management, media relations, strategic communications, and social media oversight.
  • Demonstrated success in crafting and executing effective marketing campaigns in collaboration with agencies.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with experience in managing diverse teams.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with a proven ability to articulate a clear vision and build relationships across all levels.
  • Bilingual proficiency in both official languages is preferred for effective engagement with diverse stakeholders.
  • A strong commitment to human rights principles, including respect, equity, inclusion, and dignity for all, with the ability to integrate these values into partnerships and team dynamics.
