Position Overview:

We are in search of a proactive and skilled Human Resources and Culture Lead to enhance our workforce. This pivotal role will assist the Director of Talent and Culture in crafting and executing HR strategies and initiatives. The incumbent will manage various HR functions, including talent acquisition, employee relations, performance oversight, and regulatory compliance, ensuring a productive and inclusive workplace.

Van-Kam Freightways Ltd is a prominent regional carrier in Western Canada, specializing in less-than-truckload (LTL) logistics. With multiple terminal locations, we efficiently deliver shipments across British Columbia and Alberta, and our network extends into the U.S. and Eastern Canada.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with the Director of Talent and Culture to develop and implement HR strategies that align with organizational goals, including initiatives to enhance the employee experience.
  2. Guide and support the Talent and Culture Specialist in various HR tasks, including recruitment and employee relations.
  3. Supervise the Talent and Culture Administrator in managing recruitment processes and health and wellness programs.
  4. Address and investigate complaints related to harassment and workplace violence.
  5. Assist in fostering positive employee relations and a supportive work environment.
  6. Contribute to the formulation and revision of HR policies.
  7. Provide HR support to managers and employees across the organization.
  8. Oversee compliance with federal employment programs and legislation.
  9. Ensure adherence to relevant federal laws, including the Canada Labour Code and Canadian Human Rights legislation.
  10. Collaborate with the Talent and Culture team to plan and execute employee engagement initiatives.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  1. Expertise in conducting investigations related to workplace harassment.
  2. Demonstrated experience and understanding of HR functions and best practices.
  3. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, capable of building strong relationships at all organizational levels.
  4. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  5. A collaborative team player.
  6. Passionate about human resources and employee support.
  7. Proven initiative and proactive approach.
  8. Willingness to travel occasionally to support various locations.

Experience and Training:

  1. 3-5 years of progressive HR experience in roles such as Generalist, HR Business Partner, or HR Manager.
  2. Comprehensive knowledge of federal employment legislation.

Certifications:

  1. CPHR candidate or CPHR designation preferred.

Preferred Experience:

  1. Experience in a unionized workplace.
