Job Title: Project Development Engineer

Job Summary:

AltaGas is seeking a highly skilled Project Development Engineer to join our team. As a Project Development Engineer, you will be responsible for leading technical research efforts and playing a crucial role in the energy transition. You will work on a variety of early development initiatives that drive business growth and cutting-edge emerging technologies, including carbon and emissions reduction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical initiatives through the development phases of projects, reporting up to a development/opportunity lead.
  • Coordinate and complete technical feasibility studies to better define the scope, evaluate relevant alternatives, and continually de-risk the project.
  • Collaborate with teams at all levels, including Operations, Facilities Engineering, Strategy & Innovation, Commercial Development, Discipline Engineering, external subject matter experts, and external stakeholders.
  • Provide engineering expertise, review engineering designs, and develop and/or evaluate process simulations, heat and material balances, and process flow diagrams (PFDs).
  • Analyze technologies and technological solutions that enhance AltaGas' core midstream assets.
  • Monitor opportunities and support applications for government grants and funding for emission reduction programs or projects.
  • Develop or identify opportunities for process optimization, energy efficiency, and cost reduction and help the engineering team implement appropriate solutions.

Requirements:

  • 5-10 years of front-end project development experience.
  • Engineering (Chemical discipline preferred) degree.
  • Current registration in good standing with APEGA as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.).
  • Ability to effectively manage numerous concurrent and varied expectations while prioritizing internal stakeholder objectives.
  • Ability to multi-task in a varied and fast-paced environment.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills: must be able to present findings to broad audiences, including senior management, requiring the ability to explain complex technical matters in a way both technical and non-technical personnel can understand.
  • Exhibits innovation and critical thinking when developing and evaluating alternate solutions or assessing new technologies.
  • Ability to foresee potential issues or problems through strong planning and organizing skills.
  • Expedite and coordinate project development deliverables from external stakeholders, vendors, and technology providers.
  • Support partner relations where applicable with regular reporting.
  • Experience with energy transition/decarbonization technologies an asset.
  • Midstream/facilities experience an asset.
