Position Overview:

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality nursing care to residents, particularly those with intricate and unpredictable health conditions. This role encompasses independent nursing duties, administering prescribed medical treatments, and taking a leadership position within the healthcare team to ensure seamless coordination of resident care and discharge processes. The LPN is dedicated to upholding the vision, mission, and values of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority.

Service Area: Care and Services - Specialized Units
Employment Type: Part-time, Term
Work Schedule: Days, with a focus on providing consistent care
Compensation: As per Collective Agreement

Essential Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program;
  • Active registration with the appropriate nursing regulatory body;
  • Certification in CPR;
  • Experience in geriatric nursing is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient communication skills in both official languages (French and English) are required;
  • Strong oral and written communication abilities;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Ability to prioritize care effectively for individual residents or groups;
  • Competence in delegating care appropriately and monitoring outcomes;
  • Ability to manage multiple demands simultaneously;
  • Commitment to personal and professional development;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a healthcare team;
  • Adaptability to rapidly changing situations;
  • Capacity to maintain focus amidst frequent interruptions;
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressure environment;
  • Demonstrated satisfactory employment history, including attendance; and
  • Current Criminal Record Check for the Vulnerable Sector.

Knowledge Base:

  • Understanding of the Standards of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses;
  • Familiarity with the Code of Ethics for Nurses;
  • Awareness of the scope of practice as defined by regulatory standards;
  • Clinical knowledge relevant to the care of residents;
  • Understanding of the roles and responsibilities within the healthcare team;
  • Principles of effective delegation; and
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations governing nursing practice.
This position requires bilingual proficiency (French/English). All nursing staff are assigned to the facility, and employees may hold multiple positions across different units, provided their total hours do not exceed full-time equivalence.
