Purpose:
The Head of Commercial Strategies is a vital member of the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative Commercial Team. This role is instrumental in steering the growth strategy of the team, enhancing business performance, fostering strategic innovation, and generating profits to support the Gay Lea Foods Co-operative model. The Head of Commercial Strategies will oversee the Insights and Go to Market functions, demonstrating strong leadership, the ability to transform valuable insights into actionable strategies, and guiding the team towards operational excellence. This position will elevate Gay Lea's category management, thought leadership, and is essential for maintaining Gay Lea's leading status in targeted categories and channels to meet corporate objectives and goals. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership of Commercial Strategies Team: Direct the Commercial Strategies team to serve as the center of excellence for Market Insights and Go To Market execution for Gay Lea Foods. Cultivate, develop, and mentor the team to collaborate across the organization to drive growth and profitability. Strategic Planning & Implementation: Formulate, execute, and support the commercial team with an annual insights-driven Go To Market strategy and sales materials to align with the overall corporate strategy, emphasizing market penetration, growth, competitive positioning, and profitability. Market Analysis & Intelligence: Assess current market trends, competitor tactics, and customer preferences to pinpoint untapped opportunities and potential risks, developing strategies that ensure long-term competitiveness and market expansion. A key contributor to the organization's long-term strategic planning. Integrated Business Planning: Spearhead the portfolio management review, a crucial component of the organization's Integrated Business Planning process. Management of External Relationships: Supervise the establishment of strategic partnerships and relationships with external market research firms to enhance business capabilities. Forge category partnerships with key accounts to identify opportunities. Engagement with Internal Stakeholders: Collaborate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization to achieve alignment with strategic commercial initiatives. Understand diverse perspectives, negotiate priorities, and build consensus among departments to ensure successful execution. Qualifications: University Degree required 5+ years of leadership experience with a proven record of coaching and developing teams. Strong strategic and analytical skills with experience in at least two of the following areas: Sales Account Management, Commercialization, Go To Market, Marketing, or Category Management. Demonstrated success in creating strategy and influencing execution. Strong business and financial acumen. Excellent project management, creative problem-solving, conceptual thinking, future trend identification, and process improvement skills. Exceptional presentation skills with the ability to inspire and influence others through storytelling and executive presence. Proficient in Excel and PowerPoint, with a working knowledge of syndicated data systems. Self-driven with high energy and a passion for coaching others. Experience in CPG companies is preferred. Familiarity with a matrix organizational structure is an asset. Valid G driving license required.
