About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with a high degree of accuracy. You will be responsible for performing various functions related to the laboratory, including specimen handling, data entry, and customer service activities.

This is a long-assignment, full-time position with 75 hours bi-weekly. The successful candidate will be required to work rotating shifts, weekends, and/or holidays, and may be required to interact with various stakeholders and clients.

We offer a competitive hourly rate of $26.27 and a comprehensive benefits package, including health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance coverage, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who has a recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent, and has successfully completed the Medical Laboratory Assistant examinations of the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) and has current registration with CSMLS.

The ideal candidate will have strong written and verbal communication skills, basic understanding of medical terminology, and manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects.
