About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Assistant to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a Medical Laboratory Assistant, you will play a critical role in supporting the pre and post-analytical phases of testing, including specimen procurement, data entry, media preparation, and customer service activities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical terminology, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. You will be responsible for maintaining accurate records, adhering to safety and infection prevention protocols, and providing exceptional customer service to patients and healthcare professionals.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Recognized Medical Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology
  • Manual dexterity to handle sharp instruments and small objects
  • Ability to accurately number/label specimens and file slides/requisitions
  • Ability to adapt to updates/changes in operating procedures
  • Basic computer skills, Meditech experience is preferred
  • Access to reliable transportation as travel may be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
Hours
  • Long Assignment, Full-Time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning as soon as possible for approximately 10 months
Compensation and Incentives

$26.27 hourly
