Category Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled Category Manager to join our team at Pet Valu. As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for managing the private brands and national brands of specified categories across the organization, with a focus on increasing sales, profits, and inventory turns.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement merchandise strategies that align with company directives and divisional goals.
- Communicate strategies to internal and external partners, including vendors and stakeholders.
- Plan, execute, and deliver annual category reviews, ensuring that product assortment, sales, margins, and buying plans are aligned to budgets.
- Provide direction on planning, pricing, and assortment, ensuring that pricing strategies support financial objectives.
- Negotiate product costs and promotional programs with vendors.
- Develop strong vendor relationships with key suppliers, ensuring that product life cycles, exit strategies, and aged inventory are managed effectively.
- Manage store and warehouse inventory levels in collaboration with Supply Chain.
- Ensure planograms are maintained and updated, and that market trends are kept up-to-date and implemented into category strategy.
- Grow market share and drive business growth through effective category management.
- University degree in a quantitative or analytical business discipline.
- 5+ years of experience in retail category management and/or purchasing, ideally in the consumables categories (mass retailers, pet, grocery, children's, housewares).
- Proven track record of enhancing and executing category management processes.
- Thorough knowledge of retail purchasing dynamics, including category management, seasonality, life cycle, margin requirements, negotiating, clearance programs, store sales improvements, item introductions, budgeting, promotional planning, and planograms.
