Job Summary
The McMaster Children's Hospital Autism Program is an ambulatory service for children and youth with Autism Spectrum Disorder. This program has strong links to McMaster University's Department of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, the Offord Centre for Child Studies, and the McMaster Autism Research Team.
Position Overview
The Autism Spectrum Disorder Specialist will provide consultation, planning, training, and development/distribution of resource materials to school board personnel working with children with ASD through the Connections for Students process. The consultant will work collaboratively with OAP services providers, school board personnel, and families to support school attendance.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide consultation and planning services to school board personnel working with children with ASD
- Develop and distribute resource materials to support school attendance
- Work collaboratively with OAP services providers, school board personnel, and families
- Support school attendance through the Connections for Students process
Requirements
- Undergraduate or Graduate Degree in Social Sciences; Psychology preferred
- Minimum of three years experience working with individuals with Autism and their families
- In-depth knowledge of Applied Behavioural Analysis
- In-depth knowledge and experience in community-based services and consultation
- Awareness of Ministry of Education special education policies and procedures
- Demonstrated excellent communication skills both verbal and written
- Good problem-solving skills
- Valid drivers license and access to a vehicle
- Willingness to participate in a criminal reference screening process
- Fluency in French is preferred
- Must be able to obtain a valid Vulnerable Sector Screen (VSS)
