In today's world, the importance of environmental stewardship cannot be overstated. The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is seeking a Vice President of Regional Operations for Saskatchewan, dedicated to the mission of safeguarding our vital natural landscapes.

NCC stands as Canada's foremost non-governmental organization focused on land conservation. As a charitable entity, we collaborate with individuals, Indigenous communities, corporations, government bodies, and other non-profits to protect our most cherished natural assets and implement nature-based solutions. Our evidence-driven and cooperative approach has enabled us to conserve over 15 million hectares across the nation since our inception in 1962, with our headquarters located in Toronto and regional offices throughout Canada.

The Vice President of Regional Operations for Saskatchewan will oversee NCC's initiatives within the province, ensuring effective leadership and management of our operations.

POSITION SUMMARY

Reporting to the Vice President of Operations, this pivotal role is a key member of both the Senior Management Team and the Operations Leadership Team, working closely with a Regional Advisory Board. The Vice President will provide strategic direction and oversight for all operational activities in Saskatchewan, aligning them with NCC's organizational goals.

In collaboration with senior operational leaders and a diverse range of stakeholders, the Vice President will utilize advanced communication skills to convey a compelling vision that fosters enthusiasm and commitment to NCC's mission. This role is essential in enhancing NCC's profile among major donors, partners, and the conservation community to ensure sustained growth in Saskatchewan.

With a budget responsibility of approximately $12 million, the Vice President will lead a team of around 30 employees, fostering relationships with various partners, including Indigenous Peoples, government entities, community organizations, volunteers, and donors. By cultivating and strengthening these local and regional partnerships, the Vice President will play a crucial role in the ongoing success and sustainability of NCC's strategic objectives.

This position may be performed remotely or in a hybrid format from a major urban center in Saskatchewan, with travel required to NCC's regional offices and other locations as necessary.

The Vice President will be responsible for planning, coordinating, implementing, and assessing operational outcomes within the broader context of NCC's mission. They will translate strategic objectives into actionable plans that utilize various platforms and channels. As a change agent and inspirational leader, the Vice President will embody NCC's commitment to equity and inclusion, ensuring that our actions and partnerships reflect the rich diversity of the communities we serve.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategic Development

  • Design and implement annual strategies to ensure high-impact conservation efforts in Saskatchewan.
  • Position NCC for sustainable growth by enhancing visibility among major donors and partners.
  • Foster a unified messaging approach across the Saskatchewan team to promote a cohesive brand identity.
  • Prepare and execute annual regional business plans aligned with NCC's strategic goals.
  • Lead conservation planning and reporting efforts to protect significant natural areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote key NCC initiatives.
  • Actively seek opportunities for growth and collaboration.
  • Engage in fundraising for operations and conservation projects, including major gift solicitation.

Public and Government Relations

  • Build and maintain public support for natural diversity protection.
  • Collaborate with government agencies to further NCC's mission.
  • Lead outreach initiatives to promote NCC's work in Saskatchewan.
  • Support the Regional Advisory Board through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Represent NCC's interests to various stakeholders, including landowners and the media.

Performance Evaluation

  • Establish performance benchmarks and metrics to track progress towards strategic goals.
  • Utilize data to inform strategy adjustments as needed.
  • Provide regular updates on operational performance and areas for improvement.
  • Oversee financial resource management and ensure compliance with standards.

Team Development

  • Oversee staffing activities, including hiring and training, to build a diverse and effective team.
  • Support team members' professional growth and development.
  • Ensure clear communication of roles and contributions to NCC's mission.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration and empowerment.

Operational Excellence

  • Provide leadership to maximize operational efficiencies in Saskatchewan.
  • Manage risks effectively and ensure compliance with NCC policies.
  • Oversee stewardship of lands under NCC's responsibility.
  • Review and approve regional fundraising proposals for accuracy and compliance.
  • Build trusting relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Implement innovative strategies to enhance program delivery.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with a proven track record in senior management roles, demonstrating exceptional communication and relationship-building skills. They possess a strong ability to inspire and engage teams, articulating a compelling vision that aligns with NCC's conservation mission.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership role focused on operational delivery.
  • Progressive experience in a complex organizational environment.
  • Demonstrated success in leading communications initiatives with measurable outcomes.
  • Bilingualism in French and English is an asset.
  • A relevant undergraduate or graduate degree or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of the non-profit sector is advantageous.
  • A strong passion for conservation and NCC's mission.
