Compensation: $55,166.10 annually, 35 hours/week

Additional Allowance: $20,907.43 annually

Under the supervision of the Aquatics Program Supervisor, the Lifeguard / Swim Instructor is tasked with overseeing aquatic activities, ensuring safety protocols are met, delivering exceptional customer service, and maintaining the cleanliness of the aquatic facility. This role involves monitoring guests in the pool area during shifts and exercising sound judgment while performing lifeguarding and swim instruction duties. The individual will conduct a variety of swim programs and execute rescues and first aid as necessary.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Minimum age of 16 years with a grade 10 education;
  • National Lifeguard Service Award;
  • Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor certification;
  • First Aid and CPR – C certification;
  • Vision Requirement: Candidates must meet the minimum vision standard of 20/25 corrected as determined by the City of Iqaluit.

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Proficient in both written and verbal communication;
  • Capability to perform skills to the NLS standard;
  • Flexibility to work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and split shifts;
  • Commitment to maintaining required certifications.

Desirable Assets:

  • WHMIS Certification;
  • Pool Operations Level 1 certification;
  • First Aid and CPR Instructor certification;
  • High Five (PCD) certification;
  • Aquafit Certification (CALA, Canfit, Waterart);
  • NCCP Coaching Level 1 certification;
  • Experience with Recreation Management Systems;
  • Proficiency in English and Inuktitut, both written and spoken.

Note: The successful candidate will be required to provide a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector and a satisfactory TB Screening.
