Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Outreach Worker to join our team at Thompson Rivers University Community Legal Clinic (TRU CLC). The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting community outreach operations, promoting our services, and improving our understanding of the services provided by community organizations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Meet with community groups in Kamloops and the surrounding area to promote our services and improve our understanding of the services provided by those organizations.
  • Arrange public legal education events to be presented by our staff and students.
  • Develop promotional and educational materials.
  • Arrange referrals to social services organizations for clients who require services beyond the scope of our legal services.
  • Train our students in identifying clients who may require non-legal services and making effective referrals to such services.
Requirements
  • A minimum of three years of experience working within relevant areas.
  • General knowledge of the various elements of the legal system and the impact that they have on low-income people.
  • Knowledge of community groups and other social services and how to access them locally.
  • Demonstrated ability to make presentations to small groups in an effective fashion.
  • Experience working with challenging clients.
  • Ability to recognize and diffuse stressful situations and deal with people in a sensitive and respectful manner.
  • Substantial experience working or volunteering in the non-profit sector.
  • A flexible schedule.
Working Conditions

This is an in-person part-time position, and the Outreach Worker will be expected to work an average of 16 hours per week, which may be scheduled flexibly.

Reporting Structure

The Outreach Worker will report to the Executive Director of TRU CLC.
