Development Associate Director for Major Contributions

ROME GROUP is seeking a dedicated and skilled fundraising expert to lead efforts in identifying, nurturing, soliciting, and managing relationships with major and planned gift donors. The ideal candidate will excel in the philanthropic sector, effectively linking enthusiastic supporters of public media to significant issues, initiatives, and coverage that resonate with them and the communities served.

The successful applicant will be a proficient face-to-face fundraiser with a proven track record of articulating the strategic vision of ROME GROUP and demonstrating the organization's critical role as a community asset.

Key attributes for this role include high cultural awareness and emotional intelligence, along with a history of fostering positive, responsive relationships with donors, colleagues, and other stakeholders, showcasing strong communication skills across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee a portfolio of individual and foundation major and planned gift prospects and donors, adhering to moves management protocols;
  • Exhibit inclusive communication techniques to cultivate strong professional relationships with donors, community members, and team members;
  • Formulate ongoing strategies, timelines, objectives, and metrics for the assigned portfolio, focusing on both annual and long-term goals in collaboration with development leadership;
  • Balance leadership and supervisory responsibilities with teamwork, adapting to the situation as needed;
  • Manage annual giving initiatives for high-level donors and support the growth of planned giving efforts;
  • Develop targeted strategies for soliciting major gifts, including high-level prospecting, scheduling meetings, and coordinating activities with senior leadership;
  • Identify new prospects for various giving levels through effective database and wealth research to enhance donor engagement;
  • Create compelling fundraising proposals, case statements, and communications for donors and prospects, collaborating with development leaders;
  • Coordinate major gifts fundraising activities with professionals across the organization as necessary;
  • Increase the number of major and planned giving donors and achieve targeted fundraising goals;
  • Maintain accurate records of all donor interactions and strategies within donor management software;
  • Collaborate with the development team to establish strategies and policies for donor stewardship and recognition;
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the significance and impact of public media in improving lives and a desire to work within a trusted organization that meets community needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience;
  • A minimum of five years in development, donor cultivation, or a related field;
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills;
  • Proven ability to set and achieve fundraising targets and meet deadlines;
  • Familiarity with planned giving strategies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in major gift fundraising, campaign initiatives, and proposal writing;
  • Proven success in soliciting significant annual and campaign gifts;
  • Experience in managing and developing staff;
  • Familiarity with community-focused fundraising practices;
  • Ability to quickly adapt to donor software and related tools;
  • Knowledge of public media dynamics.

Supervision Received: This position reports directly to the Development Director.

Supervision Exercised: This role supervises the Development Officer for Major Gifts and provides guidance to other development staff and interns as appropriate.

Salary Range: Competitive and commensurate with experience.
