Position Overview

The Relief System Operator (RSO) is an integral part of the System Control Centre (SCC) Operating team. The primary responsibility of the RSO is to provide relief for the System Operator. This role requires shift work according to established schedules. When not engaged at the System Control Centre, the individual may be assigned to other departments.

The Relief System Operator reports to a staff supervisor or their delegate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire knowledge and execute the responsibilities of the System Operator.
  • Perform tasks typically associated with a lower classification employee.

Qualifications

  • NERC certification is required.
  • A diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology is essential.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and manage stress effectively, particularly during emergencies. Must interact courteously with the public via telephone and collaborate well with colleagues.
  • Demonstrated potential, capability, and intent to advance to higher classifications within the Control Centre.

Additional Information

Upon successful completion of training, the Relief System Operator will receive compensation at the System Operator rate of $62.25 per hour (2022 salary schedule).

This position entails on-call/standby responsibilities based on operational requirements. The successful candidate must comply with the residency criteria for this role. Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
