Position Overview

The Relief System Operator (RSO) plays a crucial role within the System Control Centre (SCC) Operating team. The primary responsibility of the RSO is to provide support to the System Operator. This position involves shift work according to predetermined schedules, and when not engaged at the System Control Centre, the individual may be assigned to various departments.

The Relief System Operator reports directly to a staff supervisor or their delegate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Acquire and execute the responsibilities of the System Operator.
  • Perform tasks typically associated with a lower classification role.

Qualifications

  • NERC certification is required.
  • A diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology is necessary.
  • Must demonstrate sound judgment and the ability to manage stress effectively, particularly in emergency situations. Must also be able to interact courteously with the public via phone and collaborate well with colleagues.
  • Should possess the potential and ambition to advance to higher classifications within the Control Centre.

Additional Information

Upon successful completion of training, the Relief System Operator will receive compensation at the System Operator rate of $62.25 per hour. This role includes on-call and standby obligations based on operational requirements. Adherence to residency requirements is essential, and overtime may be necessary depending on operational demands.
