Position Overview
What is the opportunity?
This role is pivotal in transforming the management of the ceded reinsurance operations for RBC Insurance. You will spearhead projects, initiatives, and training programs aimed at enhancing the center of excellence. Collaborating closely with reinsurance administration analysts and key stakeholders, you will identify operational deficiencies, risks, and areas for improvement. Your efforts will involve working with cross-departmental teams to design, develop, test, and implement process and system enhancements to optimize the management of the reinsurance portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
• Collaborate with the reinsurance administration team to analyze data from reinsurance systems, identifying operational gaps and risks. Lead initiatives with cross-functional teams to develop and implement changes that enhance the reinsurance administration process.
• Oversee the creation, documentation, and upkeep of operational guidelines and procedures for managing the ceded reinsurance business. Design and implement training programs to ensure the reinsurance administration team is well-equipped and knowledgeable.
• Work in partnership with risk management teams and internal and external auditors to ensure that processes and procedures are comprehensive, with robust controls that are regularly tested and documented.
• Build and maintain relationships with various departments (including underwriting, pricing, claims, finance, and legal) and external reinsurers to gain insights into the complete reinsurance lifecycle and support external initiatives.
• Assist in the overall management of the ceded reinsurance portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate settlements of reinsurance payments and recoveries, along with compliance with treaty obligations and retention requirements.
Qualifications for Success
Must have:
• A minimum of 8 years of experience in Insurance and Reinsurance Administration, with a deep understanding of the industry, reinsurance treaties, contracts, and related processes.
• Comprehensive knowledge of reinsurance data, processes, and controls, including administration, billing, claims, underwriting, valuation, and compliance.
• Proven experience in process reengineering, mapping, and documentation, along with familiarity in operational risk management.
• Demonstrated ability to lead projects and initiatives, with a solid understanding of Agile and Waterfall project management methodologies.
• Experience with insurance systems and data flow design, analysis, and implementation, along with knowledge of the software development lifecycle.
• Strong communication and leadership capabilities, with the ability to effectively convey ideas across various levels of management and stakeholders.

• A post-secondary degree in business, actuarial science, finance, mathematics, or a related field.
