Position Overview:

The City of Toronto is seeking a dedicated professional to oversee capital projects with a focus on community relations. This role involves strategic planning and the execution of initiatives aimed at enhancing public engagement and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Formulates and executes comprehensive plans while recommending policies tailored to specific program requirements.
  • Leads the strategic planning and tactical execution of a prominent community relations initiative, emphasizing public engagement, education, and collaboration.
  • Identifies and cultivates partnership opportunities to develop effective community relations strategies and objectives.
  • Proactively addresses the changing needs of communities and external stakeholders, driving improvements in engagement initiatives.
  • Contributes to the establishment of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and dashboards to evaluate the impact and effectiveness of community relations strategies related to expansion and development.
  • Collaborates with the Transit Expansion Division to create cohesive messaging that aligns with the City of Toronto's community relations priorities.
  • Oversees the creation and management of program content to enhance public awareness through various media channels, including digital and traditional platforms.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in a relevant field such as communications, marketing, public/community relations, or journalism, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience in communications, issues management, and media relations within a large public sector organization.
  • Proven ability to plan, develop, and produce a wide range of materials, including reports, briefing notes, and strategic documents.
  • Demonstrated experience in a project management leadership role, successfully delivering projects from inception to implementation while balancing diverse stakeholder interests.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with the public, media, political representatives, and various community stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, coupled with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, transparency, and accountability, while upholding a strong ethical framework.
