Overview of Responsibilities: The Group Leader for the EXCEL Program plays a vital role in the effective functioning of the program at educational facilities. This position involves receiving daily guidance from the Program Team Leader to execute program strategies, overseeing students in diverse environments including classrooms, designated program areas, and outdoor play zones. The Group Leader is tasked with leading and facilitating a variety of engaging indoor and outdoor activities for students.
Essential Competencies:
- Ability to supervise children across various environments;
- Commitment to treating all students with respect, fairness, and consideration for their developmental needs;
- Skill in responding appropriately to student-initiated interactions;
- Capability to exercise sound judgment in managing chaotic or conflict situations;
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written;
- Knowledge of standard health practices and the ability to monitor them;
- Understanding of health and safety regulations;
- Willingness to take direction from supervisors;
- Ability to lead and engage in recreational activities;
- Teamwork skills to collaborate effectively;
- Proficiency in communicating with various stakeholders including parents, staff, and students;
- Awareness and commitment to diversity, human rights, and cross-cultural understanding;
- Dedication to maintaining confidentiality;
- Desire for continuous professional development and training.
Qualifications:
- Diploma in Early Childhood Education or a relevant degree in Child Studies or Recreation, or equivalent experience in child care or recreation;
- High School Diploma or equivalent qualification;
- Experience in a professional child care or recreational environment;
- Physical capabilities to meet job requirements, including personal and physical care;
- First Aid/CPR certification is a valuable asset.
Key Responsibilities: The Group Leader in the EXCEL Program will undertake tasks assigned by the Program Team Leader, which may include but are not limited to:
- Designing, implementing, and assessing structured recreational activities;
- Maintaining daily attendance records;
- Documenting incidents and accidents as per established protocols;
- Actively contributing to the development and execution of the program plan;
- Ensuring a safe environment through effective supervision of students;
- Assisting students with personal care and hygiene needs;
- Facilitating students' preparation for and participation in outdoor activities;
- Leading outdoor games and activities;
- Conducting general clean-up after program sessions;
- Encouraging positive interactions among students;
- Administering medication under the guidance of the Program Team Leader when necessary;
- Providing observations and feedback regarding student behavior to relevant parties;
- Addressing inquiries from parents and school staff;
- Distributing program-related materials as needed;
- Participating in staff meetings and training sessions;
- Performing additional duties as assigned by the Program Team Leader.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Casual
Compensation: $18.28 per hour
Expected Hours: 20 – 30 hours per week
