We are currently seeking an Assistant Controller to become an integral part of our finance team. This role will involve close collaboration with the Regional Controller to oversee and streamline the financial operations across our divisions. The successful candidate will ensure the timely preparation of monthly financial reports, conduct reconciliations, perform analyses, and lead the budgeting process, including various special projects. This position will directly supervise a team of 5-7 finance professionals and will work in conjunction with operational managers.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Oversee and coordinate the financial management of designated divisions.
  2. Prepare and present monthly financial statements with comprehensive analysis and insights to senior management.
  3. Conduct variance analysis on revenues and expenditures to support monthly financial reporting.
  4. Maintain accurate accounting records using Business Central.
  5. Develop and manage production/statistical databases and Excel spreadsheets.
  6. Assist the Regional Controller with annual audits, budget formulation, and forecasting.
  7. Facilitate month-end processes, including balance sheet reconciliations and inter-company transactions.
  8. Generate municipal invoices and revenue-sharing reports.
  9. Compile daily and monthly banking reports.
  10. Support Operations Managers in initiatives aimed at enhancing the profitability of divisions.
  11. Prepare HST and Stats Canada submissions.
  12. Delegate tasks effectively to ensure optimal workflow and productivity.
  13. Guide and mentor staff, setting clear goals and performance expectations.
  14. Evaluate staff performance and conduct performance reviews.
  15. Monitor team productivity, providing constructive feedback and coaching.
  16. Address team concerns, fostering motivation and maintaining morale.
  17. Provide training for new hires and ongoing team development.
  18. Ensure timely processing of vendor invoices and oversee customer collections.
  19. Maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including staff, vendors, clients, and government representatives.
  20. Prepare ad hoc reports as needed.
  21. Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  1. Completion of final year of CPA studies or possession of CPA designation.
  2. A minimum of 7-10 years of experience in a dynamic, deadline-oriented accounting environment.
  3. Proven leadership and supervisory experience.
  4. Exceptional time management skills with the ability to meet stringent deadlines.
  5. Experience in overseeing daily operations and tracking results.
  6. Advanced proficiency in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  7. Strong familiarity with accounting software applications (experience with Business Central, RTA Fleet Management Software, Navusoft, or Materials Manager is advantageous).
  8. Excellent organizational, time management, and interpersonal skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  9. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.
  10. Proven ability to motivate and develop team members.
