Opportunity Overview:

The Personal Support Worker (PSW) plays a crucial role in delivering individualized care and assistance to clients within a community environment. Responsibilities are allocated based on a predefined care strategy, developed in partnership with the client, their family, and the interdisciplinary care team. The PSW operates under the supervision of a licensed health professional and may carry out designated Restricted Activities under specific conditions. Accurate documentation of relevant information and care activities is essential, alongside participation in necessary training and educational sessions.

Role Responsibilities:

As a Personal Support Worker, you will be an integral member of a collaborative healthcare team, providing essential personal assistance that includes supporting daily living activities and offering services to patients (clients, residents) who need temporary help or ongoing care, in line with the patient care plan and organizational policies. In this role, you will engage closely with patients, families, and caregivers throughout the care continuum in home, community, or healthcare settings, assisting nursing staff with routine care to address patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreational, and safety needs. You will also facilitate organized activities or programs and monitor and report on a patient's emotional state, health status, and overall wellbeing. Working under the guidance of a licensed health professional, you will contribute to maintaining a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors, while ensuring effective communication with patients and healthcare professionals.

Required Qualifications:

Successful completion of a Personal Support Worker Certificate within 18 months of employment and active registration status on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory. Candidates must provide a confirmation letter as proof of enrollment from the Directory. Nursing students currently enrolled in an accredited Alberta nursing program who have completed a minimum of 100 hours of practicum and are either in their first year of practical nursing or second year of a baccalaureate nursing or psychiatric nursing program will be considered. Proof of compliance with these qualifications is required.

Additional Required Qualifications:

A Personal Support Worker Certificate from an accredited institution is mandatory. Equivalent experience or education may be considered. Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) and/or first aid training is required. The ability to implement Health and Safety principles while delivering care to clients in the community, work effectively and collaboratively with others, and prioritize tasks by organizing and scheduling work-related activities is essential. A valid full driver's license (non-GDL) and access to a reliable vehicle for travel are required. Candidates must be able to meet the physical demands of the position. A strong attendance record, reliability, and personal suitability must be demonstrated through employment references. Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in the healthcare sector and working with elderly or chronically ill individuals is advantageous. Training in Medication Assistance is preferred. Proficiency with computers, the Internet, and Microsoft applications is considered an asset.
