Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Specialized Outreach Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities, FAS/FAE, and/or Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Key Responsibilities
  • Initiate contact with referred individuals and assist with intake interviews to assess suitability for services.
  • Assess support needs and develop personalized service plans with individuals.
  • Make referrals to other programs, agencies, and community resources as appropriate.
  • Provide support in accessing community resources, skill development, employment skills, guidance, and emotional support.
  • Monitor individuals' well-being and provide feedback and support to families and other stakeholders.
  • Recognize and analyze potential emergency situations and develop strategies to deal with them.
  • Develop service plans and provide front-line instruction on crisis management, problem-solving, and community-based instruction.
  • Help individuals access resources in the community and provide referrals to services.
  • Advocate for individuals and assist them in self-advocacy.
  • Review individuals' progress and make reports regarding their daily activities and progress.
  • Liaise with other agencies, professionals, ministry staff, and the community.
Requirements
  • A degree, diploma, or certificate in a related field, such as the humanities, social work, or a related field.
  • Minimum of one year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and sexualized behavior.
  • Valid CPR/First Aid certificate (or ability to obtain prior to employment).
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver's License and current driver's abstract (hiring subject to abstract review).
  • Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate (i.e., MANDT) certification (or ability to obtain during probationary period).
  • Clear physician's note confirming suitability, including a negative tuberculosis screening test.
  • Successful candidate must sign an oath of confidentiality, a conflict of interest statement, abuse protocols, and a code of ethics statement.
  • Must have consistent and reliable access to a computer, working printer, scanner, and copier.
  • Cellular phone with data plan (compensation provided for business use of personal device).
  • Basic knowledge of the Surrey community and skills in researching community resources.
