Position Overview

The Small Molecules Analytical Research and Development (SM ARD) division at Allergan delivers extensive analytical support for projects in the early development stages. Our team engages with projects from the discovery phase through to late-stage development, providing thorough analytical method development, validation, and testing throughout the project lifecycle.

We are looking for a dedicated individual with a strong background in analytical chemistry to become part of our Pilot Plant Analytical Flex Team. The ideal candidate will contribute to the development and validation of analytical methods, support API campaigns, manage large sample volumes, and collaborate with Pilot Plant stakeholders. Additionally, this role includes mentoring and supervising junior analysts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Function in a dual capacity as both a laboratory analyst and a supervisory figure.
  • Independently plan and execute analytical tasks efficiently, ensuring the generation of reliable results consistently. This includes routine sample testing as well as method development and validation.
  • Act as the analytical authority and mentor within the team, providing guidance to junior analysts in method development, validation, and troubleshooting, while effectively designing experiments for them.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of experimental procedures and outcomes in compliance with GMP standards, utilizing electronic data management systems and laboratory notebooks. Validate the work of other analysts.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly regarding issues, challenges, and solutions, both within the team and with external stakeholders.
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills, including authoring and revising analytical methods, reports, and memos.
  • Coordinate effectively with colleagues and clients, ensuring timely execution of tasks among multiple analysts.

Qualifications:

  • Scientist I: Bachelor's degree or equivalent with typically 5 years of experience, or a Master's degree with typically 2 years of experience.
  • Scientist II: Bachelor's degree with typically 7 or more years of experience, or a Master's degree with typically 5 or more years of experience.
  • Proven experience in analytical chromatographic chemistry, ideally in a GMP or QC laboratory setting.
  • Required experience with HPLC and GMP documentation; experience with GC and/or Mass Spectrometry is highly desirable. Familiarity with method development and validation is preferred.
  • Instrument troubleshooting experience is advantageous.
  • Must be a quick learner with a keen interest in analytical chemistry, and experienced in working with laboratory-scale analytical equipment.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional off-shift work.
  • Adaptability and flexibility are essential due to frequently changing timelines and task priorities.
  • Willingness to travel between different sites as required.
